Trattoria al Moro

When in Rome: It’s Always Al Moro

  • September 10, 2025
  • Brad A. Johnson
One of the things I love most about Rome is how slowly things change. Some things — like classic Roman cuisine — just don’t change at all, which means whenever I’m in Rome, I don’t rush around the city attempting to eat in all the new restaurants like I might in other cities. I stick with my tried and true, like Trattoria al Moro. I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve dined at this little restaurant over the last 30 years. But every single time, I’ve eaten the same thing and loved it: buttery, garlicky scampi and a plate of Italian ham — with a carafe of cheap (but fantastic) house wine. And the service is always great. This place never disappoints.
