Closer Look: Tre Dita, Chicago

For OLTRE’s summer issue, I reviewed chef Evan Funke’s new Tre Dita restaurant at The St. Regis Chicago. But as you might know, Funke lives in Los Angeles, where he operates several other restaurants. So, who helms the Chicago restaurant day-to-day? It’s Chicago legend Jean Joho (whose famed Everest closed during the pandemic).

This is a power collaboration all around, a joint project of Funke, Chicago’s Lettuce Entertain You restaurant group (of which Joho is a partner) and The St. Regis hotel.

The design team is equally inspiring. David Collins Studio handled the restaurant itself, while the 101-story skyscraper was designed by Jeanne Gang of Studio Gang. It’s the tallest tower in the world designed by a woman — and it’s Gang’s second time to hold that record.

The grand, soaring atmosphere (and that view!), the Tuscany-inspired food and wine, the service and hospitality — all of it absolutely fantastic. This is America’s Next Great Restaurant. You will love the way this place makes you feel.
