Hotel Review: Hyatt Regency Polanco, Mexico City

  • November 25, 2014

The Hyatt Regency Mexico City debuted in Polanco in 2013 when Hyatt purchased and began the slow work of transforming the 38-story Hotel Nikko. It took a couple of years to finish the new lobby and central atrium, which were fully gutted and rebuilt. The new design is clean, modern and luxurious.

Located on Polanco’s luxury hotel row (Campos Eliseos), adjacent to the W and Intercontinental, this is currently Polanco’s best luxury hotel. (The W is slated for refurbishment soon.)

Revamping the rooms was the first order of business for Hyatt. Stark and understated, the new rooms remind me more of Park Hyatt than Regency. They are easily are among the nicest in the neighborhood, with superb beds and lots of fluffy pillows. The best rooms are the park-view rooms on the Club Level. The views are incredible, and the Club Level comes with access to the private lounge, which provides complimentary breakfast in the morning and happy hour in the evening. The Club Level also comes with ‘round-the-clock butler service, which includes complimentary coffee delivered to the room whenever you want it.

Service throughout the property is excellent. Private town cars, suburbans and municipal taxis are readily available. Fast WiFi is free throughout the hotel and guest rooms.

Bottom Line: This is currently the nicest luxury hotel in Mexico City’s most exclusive neighborhood. But that won’t last. There’s a new Park Hyatt being built next door, slated to open in 2021.

Rates from about $250. Campos Eliseos 24, Polanco, Mexico City. Tel. 888-591–1234, mexicocity.regency.hyatt.com
