Short Order: Maro Wood Grill, Laguna Beach

Maro Wood Grill in Laguna Beach is an Argentine steakhouse done in miniature. The menu is extremely limited, which makes sense for a tiny restaurant with only eight kitchen-counter seats on the inside, plus another 20 seats squeezed onto an outside deck. If it rains, good luck.

The basic premise here is steak: simple, uncomplicated, grass-fed, wood-grilled steak. And while it’s hard to go wrong with any of the very limited choices, the best of the lot is probably the sirloin steak, a regulation, baseball-size hunk of beef perfectly cooked over smoldering mesquite embers…
