Critic’s Notebook: Craig’s, West Hollywood

Craigs-11bw

After 20-plus years as the maître d’ and celebrity gatekeeper at Dan Tana’s, Craig Susser left that classic earlier this year to open a paparazzi-stalked hangout of his own. It’s called Craig’s

And not surprisingly it’s more or less a carbon copy of Dan Tana’s—an Italian American steakhouse packed with a who’s who of the Chasen’s generation, along with the occasional rock star in dark sunglasses (and, yes, it’s pitch black in here). The biggest difference? The booths are blue instead of red. The steaks are fine, like what you’d find at a decent chain steakhouse. The homemade fries are terrific. The fettucine Alfredo is a massive heap of artery-clogging heaven. And you’ll definitely want to save room the chocolate bread pudding. 8826 Melrose Ave., West Hollywood, 310.276.1900
